How do pessimistic agents save miners? A STIT based approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper develops a new STIT based deontic logic, pessimistic utilitarian deontic logic, capable of analyzing the miners puzzle. The key idea of the semantics of this logic is: one set of possible worlds is better than another set of possible worlds iff the worst world in the first set is better than the worst world in the second. This semantics gives an idea to write predictions in the miners scenario meanwhile blocks the unwilling statement.

STIT Based Deontic Logics for the Miners Puzzle
In this paper we first develop two new STIT based deontic logics capable of solving the miners puzzle. The key idea is to use pessimistic lifting to lift the preference over worlds into the preference over sets of worlds. We also discuss a more general version of the miners puzzle in which plausibility is involved. In order to deal with the more general puzzle we add a modal operator representi...
متن کاملProperties of logics of individual and group agency
We provide proof-theoretic results about deliberative STIT logic. First we present STIT logic for individual agents without time, where the problem of satisfiability has recently been shown to be NEXPTIMEcomplete in the general case. Then we study STIT logic for groups of agents. We prove that satisfiability of STIT formulas involving groups of agents is undecidable by reducing the problem of s...
متن کاملA Logic for Reasoning about Counterfactual Emotions
The aim of this work is to propose a logical framework for the specification of cognitive emotions that are based on counterfactual reasoning about agents’ choices. An example of this kind of emotions is regret. In order to meet this objective, we exploit the well-known STIT logic [Belnap et al., 2001; Horty, 2001]. STIT logic has been proposed in the domain of formal philosophy in the nineties...
متن کاملTemporal STIT logic and its application to normative reasoning
OATAO is an open access repository that collects the work of Toulouse researchers and makes it freely available over the web where possible. To cite this version : Lorini, Emiliano Temporal STIT logic and its application to normative reasoning. I present a variant of STIT with time, called T-STIT (Temporal STIT), interpreted in standard Kripke semantics. On the syntactic level, T-STIT is nothin...
متن کاملFatalistic Tendencies: An Explanation of Why People Don’t Save
This paper uses data from the 2001 Survey of Consumer Finances to analyze household savings behavior. Individuals who are relatively pessimistic about the future of the economy or who deem themselves unlucky with financial affairs are more likely to realize their need to save, but are less likely to actually do so. The results hold after controlling for a number of demographic and behavioral fa...
